    Day 17 - February 19th (6hrs)

Day 17 of my mentorship with Warubi Sports was all about creating my strategy for my scouting career. I started off the day with a call where I spoke to Herbert Biste about what is needed and what is going into being a recruiting scout. One of the main things I was told is being able to create your own strategy and know in which direction you want to go. That being said, he gave me the task to come up with my recruitment plan today. It was an extremely long and thorough process. I was doing a lot of brain storming and was weighing pros and cons of going in a certain direction. The two main decisions I had to make was if I wanted to work with only German athletes or if I was open to a worldwide recruiting, and the other decision was about focusing only on high level recruits or working with everyone that wants to fulfill their dream of playing college soccer in the US. To begin with, I decided to work with anyone that wants to go to the U.S., as this will provide an easier entry for me to the scouting business. Essentially, I want to work myself up and only focus on high level talent, which will hopefully happen rather soon. Secondly, I decided to not limit myself on German recruits. I was able to build a network within the U.S. and the European soccer world over the past 10 years, which is why I do not want to close this door for me. I think these two decisions will work well for me, and they are building the main pillars of my scouting strategy.

Mentorships, as well as internships, are an extremely valuable tool for students to prepare for the real world.
