The second day of my internship included another zoom call with one of the workers of Athletes USA and Warubi Sports. Marvin Wesselburg is one of the head scouts for Athletes USA, and also worked together with me in 2021 when I transferred schools from Liberty University in Virgina to Tiffin University in Ohio. Since I already knew Marvin, it was nice connect again and very interesting to talk to him from another perspective as colleague rather than customer. Besides being a scout and placement agent for Athletes USA, Marvin is also the head of marketing for both Warubi Sports and Athletes USA. Herbert specifically connected me with Marvin as marketing will be one of the main aspects of my internship. Marvin walked me through some of the basic marketing strategies of both agencies. The companies don´t differ as they work closely together and even overlap in some positions, just like Marvin for example. Some of the core strategies of the two companies include marketing API´s, paid advertising, Microsoft, Facebook as well as google campaigns and lastly SEO and website optimization.
Marvin does not directly work on each of those aspects of marketing but rather overseas and leads each project, making sure content and quality are right. An interesting fact about the marketing strategy is that both companies work with third party agencies like Design Pickle and Flocksi for all their graphic and digital content needs. Since the graphic design part is extremely time intense and expensive, the two companies decided to outsource this part of their marketing strategy as it seems to be more time and cost effective. Besides the fact that Warubi as well as Athletes USA does not create their own graphics, Marvin told me about the importance of knowing and mastering the adobe creative cloud interface. Adobe creative cloud provides all necessary apps and resources to successfully create graphics and other creative marketing content like Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign and Acrobat Pro. After the zoom call, I was able to install the adobe creative cloud and worked through the cloud to get familiar with all the available apps. The app I will be using most during this mentorship is Photoshop, as it is one of the most effective tools for content creation. I finished the day working through a beginner workshop for Photoshop, which provided me with some great basic knowledge of the app.
