Today was camp day. It was an extremely busy day for me. I was quite nervous as it was the first time, I ever lead a camp. I woke up early to prepare all the documents. I printed out field layouts, check-in sheets and coaches’ schedules. It was a 2-hour drive to Gahanna, where I started to set-up the check-in table. We had paper numbers for all players with safety pins, which they were going to attach to their shorts or shirts. The athletic trainer for the day arrived and I was briefing her as she was helping me with the check-in. After a while, the coaches arrived and we had a quick meeting going over the schedule and field organization. Shortly after, I sent the coaches to set-up their stations and the first players arrived. The check-in process lasted for about 30 minutes, and I had all the players gather together in the middle of the main field where we had a short camp – and coaches introduction. I deployed all coaches to their stations and split up the players in six groups. We ended up having 130 players, which left us with roughly 17 players for each group. After the players were put in their groups, the hardest part of my day was done. From now on, all I had to do was keep track of time and make sure the players rotate efficiently between all the stations. During the sessions, I split up the players into their teams for the afternoon, and right after the morning session we started the small sided games. We finished the camp with the coaches panel, where all players and parents were gathering in the middle of the field for a Q&A session with the coaches. Afte the camp, I organized the check-in sheet by players and age range, and sent them to the guys from Warubi to get them in the database. All in all, it was a very successful day!
