    Day 6 - January 22nd (9hrs)

Day 6 of my mentorship with Warubi Sports was the second day of the ECNL showcase in Florida. After sharing all of our scouting reports the day before, we split up in pairs of two´s to re-watch all the players we marked down on Saturday. We had a about 30 players marked down, spread up on about 20 different teams. We arrived early at the complex again to make sure we get to the first field on time securing a good spot. The first half of the day was spent watching the 2023/2024 graduates from the day before. We made sure that we watched players that we personally did not watch yesterday, to make sure more than one scouting opinion for the same player are positive. Additionally, it is always good to check the consistency of a player. If a player only performs one day, it shows a lack of character and mentality. Even if the prospective player does not have the best day, we can still see how the bad day is treated. With the right attitude ad work ethic, scouts can be impressed even if the player doesn´t have their best day. The second half of the day was spent watching 2025/2026 graduates. These players are currently sophomores and juniors in high school. During this age, player usually haven’t reached their full potential. Regardless, trends in scouting show that players should be scouted quite early in their process, to make sure they can be properly accompanied in their development. One of the biggest challenges of a scout is to realize raw talent early. While some scouts or coaches might deem a player as not good enough or not ready yet, a good scout can see potential that, with the right leadership, will get the athlete to the required level in the near future. To conclude the recruitment trip, we sat back down after a full day of scouting to confirm the players from yesterday´s showcase, or to get rid of players that disappointed on day 2. Additionally, we started to create a new database for the 2025/2026 kids that we scouted today.
